Our History
The Sunrise Church was started in January 2004 with a group of 25
adults and children. The South MacArthur Church of Christ in Irving
and the Lakeside Church of Christ in Mansfield cooperatively sent out
these families to form a community of faith in southern Grand Prairie.
Sunrise began with the desire of being a church that serves the
communities and neighborhoods south of I-20. We began our weekly
celebrations meeting in Starrett Elementary School and hope to
eventually move to a more permanent location in the area.
Our Vision
A church where people experience true, meaningful, and authentic
worship
A church where people find social and spiritual community
A church where people have a heart for the lost and are active in
outreach and evangelism
A church where people can discover their God given gifts and be
empowered to use those gifts in service to church and community
A church that has a global vision for evangelism and church planting
and is actively equipping and sending out missionaries/church planters
Our Mission
We will love and glorify God by proclaiming His truth, making
disciples in our community, and equipping the body of Christ to become
the light of the world.
Basic Beliefs
We believe that God is the almighty creator of the universe.
We believe that Jesus Christ is His son who was born of a virgin, died
on a cross, was buried in a tomb, and resurrected from the dead.
We believe that God has sent His Holy Spirit who is active and alive
in our world.
We believe the Bible is the divinely inspired word of God.
We believe that the Church is the body of Christ, led by Christ; He is
the head. We are the body.
Core Values
Outreach—We value outreach by actively seeking and
inviting the unchurched to Christ and Christian community.
Community—We value the unity of the church by actively
participating in home groups, sharing meals together, and sharing the
Lord’s Supper weekly.
The Word—We value the Bible by having daily Bible study
lessons, discussing them in our home groups, and practicing Biblical
preaching.
Prayer—We value prayer by living prayerfully dependent lives, praying
for each other individually, in home groups, and practicing prayer
corporately.
Service/Ministry—We value ministry by encouraging all
people to actively serve the church and community through ministry
teams and individually.
Children—We value children by including them in our time
of worship and having a special time of teaching designed especially
for them.
Home Groups
Sunrise is a church made up of home groups. These are groups of up to
12 adults that meet weekly in homes for prayer, Bible study,
fellowship, and outreach. We believe that God’s Spirit powerfully
works in these smaller communities to transform our lives and hearts
into the image of Christ. It is our goal that our home groups
continually grow and start new groups.
